Dual Diagnosis: Crossroads & MAT

Dual diagnosis services at Portage Path Behavioral Health are designed to help those experiencing mental illness and substance use disorders to take control of their recovery and return more quickly to their best possible life, with fewer relapses.

In addition to individual counseling and group therapy, the following evidence-based programs are the foundation of Portage Path’s innovative dual diagnosis capabilities.

Bridges

Bridges is a custom-designed program for dual diagnosis clients. By combining care for both issues into one treatment plan, Bridges helps clients make faster progress and avoid relapses. Clients learn positive coping mechanisms, skills that allow them to make positive lifestyle changes, and communication skills to help them fix broken relationships. Portage Path has dually-licensed mental health and chemical dependency professionals working on our treatment teams to optimize care.

Roots of Recovery: Men’s Trauma Group

A group for PPBH clients experiencing trauma, PTSD, Acute Stress Disorder, and with a co-occurring substance use issue.

Held on Tuesdays from 12-1:30 PM at Akron Clinic. Group begins February 2nd.

Crossroads

Crossroads is currently an Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program (IOP) for clients who need a level of care above outpatient treatment, but whose conditions do not warrant hospitalization. Crossroads provides a safe, structured environment where clients can build essential life and problem-solving skills and improve treatment readiness. Using a dynamic goal-oriented approach, Crossroads facilitates skill-building and aids the healing process. In addition, Crossroads helps develop self-reliance, problem-solving skills and a sense of hope about the future. Upon completion of the program, clients are referred to aftercare programs customized to meet their needs.

Crossroads: New Directions

A co-ed evening Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Portage Path clients with co-occurring mental illness and substance use issues. This group adopts the same core principles as our original day program while integrating more trauma-informed & evidence-based practices, including creative coping techniques.

Held on Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5-8 PM at Akron Clinic starting February 1st.

Family Education & Support Group

A support group for family and friends of clients being treated for Dual Diagnosis. This group will provide support and guidance for helping those in recovery as well as education about mental illness and substance use disorders.

Held on Thursdays 6-7 PM at Akron Clinic. Group begins February 11th, 2021. This group is FREE.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

MAT for opioid addiction allows clients to regain a normal state of mind more quickly, avoiding withdrawal symptoms and starting down the path to recovery through education, counseling and other treatments focused on the behavioral aspects of addiction. Clients in this program are closely supervised by medical personnel, and ongoing medication needs are monitored and adjusted based on medical criteria and individual needs.
