Small Steps Lead to Big Changes: Embracing Recovery at Portage Path

Jan 8, 2025 | Addiction, Mental Health

January is Substance Use Disorder Treatment Month (SUD), a time to recognize the importance of seeking help and the power of recovery. This month serves as a reminder that substance use disorder is a serious health condition that impacts individuals, families, and communities. It also highlights the importance of effective treatment and the hope that recovery brings. SUD Treatment Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage people to take that critical first step toward healing. At Portage Path Behavioral Health, we are proud to be part of that process, offering the resources and support individuals need to take back control of their lives.

The first step in recovery can often be the hardest, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. It can be as simple as picking up the phone to set up an appointment with our dedicated team of professionals. We understand that it’s not easy to reach out for help, but it’s a powerful decision that can lead to a lifetime of positive change.

For those facing both mental health and substance use challenges, Portage Path offers specialized support. Many people struggle with what’s known as co-occurring disorders—when substance use disorder and mental illness occur together. Navigating both can feel daunting, but we’re here to offer the support, compassion, and guidance needed to make progress in both areas.

Our outpatient programs, including multiple co-occurring disorder groups, provide a safe space for individuals to begin addressing both their mental health and substance use issues in tandem. The key to success in recovery is understanding that healing doesn’t happen all at once—it’s about small, consistent steps. Whether it’s attending a group session or having a one-on-one conversation with a counselor, each step brings you closer to the life you deserve.

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental illness and substance use, remember that you don’t have to do it alone. At Portage Path, we are committed to walking with you every step of the way. Big changes begin with small steps—take the first one today by reaching out to us. Together, we can create lasting transformation.

If you are struggling and need someone to talk to – please call, text or chat 988 – the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline – for 24/7 support, locally answered by Portage Path professionals.
