Portage Path Brings New Dual Diagnosis Programming Into New Year

by | Feb 15, 2021 | Uncategorized

With generous funds from The HSC/Summit County Community Health Fund of Akron Community Foundation to expand dual diagnosis programming, Portage Path will be adding three new co-occurring groups. These include a much-needed Men’s Trauma Group, an evening Intensive Outpatient Program, and a Family Support Program.

The Men’s Trauma group, Roots of Recovery will be the first in the area to offer this type of group exclusively for men. This group is for PPBH clients experiencing trauma, PTSD, Acute Stress Disorder, and with a co-occurring substance use issue. We will continue to provide Women’s trauma services through our innovative and successful Avenues of Hope program as well. Roots of Recovery will run on Tuesdays from 12-1:30 PM at our Akron Clinic.

Our evening Dual Diagnosis IOP called Crossroads: New Directions is a co-ed evening Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Portage Path clients with co-occurring mental illness and substance use issues. This group adopts the same core principles as our original day program while integrating more trauma-informed & evidence-based practices, including creative coping techniques. This group will run on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 5-8 PM at our Akron Clinic.

The new Family Education & Support Program is a support group for family and friends of Portage Path clients being treated for Dual Diagnosis. This group will provide support and guidance for helping those in recovery as well as education about mental illness and substance use disorders. This group will be held on Thursdays from 6-7 PM at the Akron Clinic. There is no cost to attend this group.

Portage Path’s Dual Diagnosis Program helps clients recover from co-existing mental illness and substance use disorders. By Treating both simultaneously, treatment is more effective and efficient, leading to improved outcomes for clients. Call 330-253-3100 to schedule an appointment or visit https://www.portagepath.org/services/dual-diagnosis-crossroads/ for more information about our Dual Diagnosis Program.
