Portage Path Behavioral Health was proud to partner with Western Reserve Playhouse for their production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Portage Path was asked to provide clinical guidance to the actors and director during the rehearsals to ensure accuracy and a realistic display of a psychiatric ward. In addition to this guidence, Portage Path also help talk-back nights after three of the performances.

“I called on Sean Blake at Portage Path Behavioral Health to make sure that we were doing justice to those who work in the mental health field,” explains director Brian Westerley in the production’s program, “He gave me plenty to chew on and let the cast and me take a tour of a facility in the Akron area to really see what it’s like to be on a ward. This helped the cast more than I could ever have imagined.”

Sean Blake, LPCC-S, VP of Clinical Services joined the cast and various Portage Path clinical professionals for these talk-backs to answer audience questions about mental health treatment, the challenges of portraying these characters, and the services available for those suffering from mental illness.
