Exercise is an important aspect of any healthy lifestyle for people of all ages. Exercise not only promotes a healthy body but did you know it can also be an important part of your mental health routine?
A meta-analysis study completed in 2021 found that of all research conducted from 1990-2020 (1,158 studies) 89% found a positive link between exercise and mental health. The report emphasized 3 categories of exercise to focus on:
- General Physical Activity
- Cardiovascular/aerobic activity
- Yoga or other mindfulness-focused activities.
We love to see people get out into parks and go for hikes, and other activities such as running, lifting, yoga, tai chi, etc. The important part is to get out and be active for 3-5 days a week for at least 30-45 minutes. A great way to create a habit of getting in shape is to train for a 5k.
Portage Path Behavioral Health’s KJ’s 5K is this October and gives you plenty of time to get in shape! KJ’s 5k is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for suicide prevention in the NE Ohio area. If you are looking for a great way to improve your mental health this summer consider signing up for KJ’s 5K on October 1, 2022.
